Start a new topic
Five questions, one at a time, then a new env with a spec, a roadmap and a first bookmark.
yat:new-envStart a new topic
yat:new-env makes an env: a folder under envs/ that holds everything about one topic. Behaviour comes from the other skills, so a new topic never needs new code.
What you say
| You say | What happens |
|---|---|
I want to learn <topic> | The interview, then the env |
new env / add a learning environment | The same |
The interview
One question at a time:
- What do you want to learn, and what will you be able to do when you're done?
- What do you already know that the tutor can use for analogies?
- How do you like to be taught? Skip anything you have no opinion on.
- Which days can you show up?
- Should it teach by questions (
socratic), by making a real thing together (project), or sit beside you while you create (passenger)?
It then copies the closest template from examples/envs/ (practice-drills, project, creative-draft, language-practice, math-science or _template), fills it in from your answers, and tells you the one phrase to start: let's do <env>.
It never fills the roadmap with content you haven't chosen, and it never starts teaching while it scaffolds.
What it makes
| File | Holds |
|---|---|
env.toml | Tier, cadence, mode, terminal rule, register |
CLAUDE.md | What the material is, what you already know, what "done" means |
tutor.md | How you want to be taught, in your own words |
roadmap.md | Five to ten units, each with a "done when" sentence |
session-state.md | The first bookmark, with a specific first move |
Terminal: allowed, because scaffolding is setup, not a learning session.
